Gujarat: Court convicts nine in 2002 Ode massacre

AHMEDABAD: A special court in Anand district has convicted nine people and acquitted 31 in 2002 Ode massacre. The Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation team - SIT has probed the third case of 2002 riots at Ode village.
The case relates to the killing of three Muslims including a woman and one child who were burnt to death by a mob at Malav Bhaghol area of Ode village in Anand district following the Godhra train carnage.
Total 41 people were charge-sheeted in this case. One person was died during the trial.
On 1st March 2002, as communal riots spread across the state after the Godhra train-carnage, a mob attacked about 20 Muslim homes in Ode. Mob set fire to a three storied house in which members of several families in the neighborhood took refuge.
Earlier, Special Fast Track Court in another case had convicted 23 people for killings of 23 innocent people in the same village.
